Not needed. Many people think they do more harm than good. I don't know very many people that actually run them anymore
Uv sterilizer? No one really NEEDS one but some people fully believe in the benefits in running one. You have to be careful when choosing a uv sterilizer because most are underpowered and will only clarify the water and not actually be beneficial for sterilization purposes.
The whole topic is very debatable but no matter how you spin it UV sterilizers are totally optional equipment.
