Answer these Qs to ensure we have as much information as possible about your ailing fish and its environment:
1~What type of fish is afflicted? In addition, please describe what is wrong with the fish to the best of your ability (i.e. cotton like growth, bloated, etc.).
A: fancy male guppy. Bitten eye, was bleeding and puffy. That seems to have reduced now.
2~What are your tank parameters (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, temp, pH)? Please give exact values.
A: all parameters are in safe zone.
3~ How large is the tank? How long has the tank been set up?
A: 20G/almost 8 months
4~What type of filtration are you using? Please give the name and number (i.e. Fluval 304) and amount of gph if known.
A: 2 aqueon filters with activated carbon cartridges. I believe they move 50 g per hour? Maybe more. I do not remember. I have had the tank for about 2.5 years.
5~How many fish are in the tank? What kinds of fish are they and what are their current sizes?
A: 1 snail. 5 Cory cats. 1 endler guppy. 2 sunrise guppies. 1 fancy male guppy (currently in quarantine).
6~When is the last time you did a water change and vacuum the gravel? How often do you do this? How much water do you remove at a time?
A: Last pic and gravel vac was yesterday. Water has not been changed in roughly 3 mos prior to yesterday. But evap gap was continuously filled.
Normally do 50% pwc 1x monthly with partial gravel vac. Remove 10g during 50% pwc.
7~How long have you had the fish? If the fish is new, how did you acclimate it/them?
A: roughly 6 mos.
8~Have you added anything new to the tank--decor, new dechlorinator, new substrate, etc.?
A: nothing new added prior to injury
9~What kind of food have you been feeding your fish, have you changed their diet recently?
A: no new food. Pellet food and algae wafers
Notes:
It appears Jeffrey got in a fight. His eye was swollen and bloody looking. He kept sinking to the bottom of the tank. I quarantined him and he seemed to do a little better, getting up and swimming around a little. Now he lays upside down on the bottom not moving fins but breathing heavily. When I move the bowl a little he will swim to the top and swim for a minute but then fall back down on his belly and shortly after stop moving. He is still alive and I don't know what to do. Will he get better or should I put him out of his misery? If I need to do that what is the absolute best way to it?
