What fish is this?

The guy at the pet store called is carpinta and said it only gets 3"
but I cannot find any information

The guy is a moron, looks like a juvie Herichthys carpintis which will reach 9-12" depending on whether it's a male or female.

To me, it looks like a young JD or GT. They don't get as big as Texas, but still will easily be 6+ inches

What store did you go to?

~And on taking a second look, it most likely is a texas. yea, they get big.

A local pet store but I learned not to trust most store, I have a fish store dedicated to fish near me and I still find that they have wrong the name sometimes.
