Are the pads or the floss better? Is 14oz of filter floss more than a 30" x 36" micron pad? http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?siteid=7&pCatId=5382 I think that all the "crap" sticking to my walls is suspended particles that hopefully the floss/pad can take care of. A lot cheaper than a diatom filter. All help is greatly appreciated...

what kind of filter do you have? can these things be put into a hob? I have been wanting to change the type of media in mine. I had just been getting the packaged filter things that you just slip in. would other stuff do a better job?

Pads are likely more efficient, but also likely more pricey and get clogged faster.

I used filter floss in the media baskets in my penguin 330's but found that after time it started to break apart and ended up inside my tank so I stopped using it.

just ordered some filter floss and a micron pad from liveaquaria.com. See which one works better. Hope this helps my "suspended particle" situation... I will only use it to get the particles out of my tank and then once it is good, I will remove it until more "crap" gets in there. Thanks guys for the info and help...
