Why do my Blue Gouramis hide?

I have two large Blue Gouramis. They have been in my tank since this past February. For several months, they were very active and swam all over my tank. They have developed wonderful color and add a lot to my tank.
However, in the last couple of months, they have started to hide around the bottom of the tank, within plants and rocks and are rarely seen.
What would be the reason for this?

Thats funny you mention that. I have some blue ones at work that have been doing this. I am not sure why...

Check your water parameters first. If there is a spike in something, it could be causing them massive stress.

what else has changed between Feb and when this behaviour commenced?

Additional fish?
New decor?
Rearranged decor?
Something external possibly scaring them? Kids?
