Will a dimmer on my aquarium LED light reduce the amount of electricity being used?

I have a 50w aquarium LED light. It was too bright for my tank and high chance of excess algae developing.
So I bought a LED dimmer and can reduce the brightness by 50%.
Does that mean I am only using 25w of electricity, because I dimmed down the lights by 50% ?

I hope so cause it means I can cut my electricity bills by half too.

Yes, the will use less electricity when dimmed. Although, LEDs do not dim as incandescents do.

LEDs cannot dim as low as an incandescent.

I tested the dimmer and goes lower enough for me. I only needed 50% at most. Seems like it went to around 80%

As far as your power bill goes, you'll only cut your electricity bill for the aquarium lighting in half, not your bill in general. If you cut it by 25 watts, that means every 40 hours your light is on you'll be saving a kilowatt. Here in the US that's about 12 cents in most states, I think it's about 30 in lots of Australia.
