Reef Aquarium Lighting & LED Lights: Marineland Reef Capable LED Lighting System

Asking because my dog wanted to racetrack around the tank and knock my last t5 setup in the drink. Need quick responses also how long can they go without light.

I would assume they would be OK for 3-4 days. As far as the fixture I would think those would be OK in a small tank like that.

Eventhough these are said for reefs, people usually use ten for fowlr tanks because they don't quite make the cut. Marineland has a new series of LEDs that's more appropriate for reefs. Good luck.

1300 lumens is not much. i can't find a lumen output rating for 18" high output lamps, but found a chart that shows that a single 14 watt (normal output) t5 bulb puts out 1350 lumens. you are picking up quite a bit of light choosing the T5 fixture.


a typical 54 watt high output lamp puts out 5000 lumens, where the normal output lamp of the same size puts out less than 3000. i would assume it's the same difference for the smaller lamps, so that would mean a dual lamp t5 HO fixture would be a night and day difference from the marineland "reef capable" led fixture.

Do not think lumens for LEDs should be compared with t5s IMO
T5 outputs in a cylindrical shape so a reflector is needed to put the light straigt down, for a loss of net lumen.
Led with lenses will output all lumen in a conical shape (most common 99% of aquarium led fixtures) forcing all lumens down into your tank.
I would suggest looking into a cred led fixture or some ho led fixture on eBay, there isn't much u can screw up building LEDs

How good or bad are these lil buggers with the reflector.

but lumens are measured with a meter showing total output. it's not something that sees all around the bulb, just what is reflected towards it. so, the LED fixture should have more lumens since it's targeted, but it shows a lot less.

they are 12 one watt LEDs if i'm not mistaken. if i was wanting to light a 10 gallon coral tank i would probably want 2 or 3 of them to get even light throughout the entire tank.

I think they are 1.5 watts since its 12 inches long and 19w.

They extend to about a inch away when it grows a lil more ill have to rehome it into the 30 gallon
