Wood decor?

I've found a piece of wood in my backyard that I thought would look really nice in my tank. The problem is part of the wood is mushy or soft. Should I leave it out in the sun? If so how long? Or should I just start out saturating it? As of now it's sitting outside.

Don't use anything mushy or soft. That means it will rot. You want hard, solid wood that is weathered.

I know it's a bummer. It was all twisted. With swirls of color, it even had a hole where a branch used to be.
