I'm new to plants and I'm trying to get good fluorescent lighting in my tank. As of now I'm running an incandescent hood with a compact fluorescent spread around only half the tank. I know I could probably get another bulb for cheap but I wanted to know if it's worth it and if there's an advantage to the fluorescent tubes. Thanks in advance.

If it has the dual bulb hood? Grab 2 6500k cfl's and that will allow you to grow done nice low light plants!

It depends on your goals for the tank. If you want to stay on the low end that would work great but if you wanted to upgrade to medium or high light i would get a versa top with a LED (with that come CO2 and ferts).

So there's no difference whether or not I upgrade to a full fluorescent hood?
if your thinking of just getting the hood with a single t8 tube than the one you have now would be better with the cfl's.
