Found this guy at my LFS for 6 dollars. Should I get him for my 55 gallon?

It's a dragon blood. You can if you want. They are pretty easily mixed with other cichlids

Will it color up like other dragon bloods?

It's hard to say. They are so over breed these days that half the time they will stay that color. Especially if its a female

Yes he looks cool, you tank has lots of hidding places so go for it!

I have one and I like him. He hasn't colored up more at all. He's different to most other Aulonocara
