Read up on it, some phyto is packaged with glycerin. I bought some to grow pods with and froze it into small ice cubes, that seems to allow it to last longer than refrigeration does.

+1. The higher your expectation on such products, the less happy you will be with the Finishing result, if in fact it ends up not working.

The ingredients seem to be able to sustain good preservation methods, so there is a good chance that the product will work.
 
You can't artificially create what nature can only make, call it live, stick it in a bottle and sit it on a shelf and expect it to do anything. Water changes are your miracle in a bucket.
