South american cichlids in 45 gallon

I wasn't warning you I was simply asking you, I don't know squat about geophagus to be honest. I've never actually owned one!

A 45 is a bit small for more than one. Since they do better in groups rather than solo, a 55 or really a 75 is ideal.
 
How about with a spiny eel?

I dont know anything about eels honestly, but I know theses guys aren't aggressive at all. I would start with 4-6 of your looking for a compatible pair, they're in a 40 breeder currently without so much as a nipped fin.

You can come by and see them and my fish room if you wish, you've got my email.
 
A pair of those or trio would be fine in that sized tank, I wouldn't add any more than the pair/trio personally.

There are some gold HRP's and a small colony of Crytoheros cutteri on GCCA.
