Just carefully tie alittle bundles on the branch with black 100% cotton thread. I found the Flame moss in my tank took awhile to attach. It's kind of a pain when the branch is in the tank but it can be done.

Day 12 fishless cycling:
ph-8.0
ammo-0ppm(dosed back up to 2ppm)
nitrite-.25ppm
My ammo bottomed out midday yesterday(dosed back up)&nitrite was around 1ppm...so coming to a close on this cycle..also ill try using the thread&try tying it as you(Rivercats)reccomened..

I also ordered the Ehiem Torf Pellets too gonna try that after the cycle has completed..

A few updated pics of the tank...

I like how the branch looks! Was that something you purchased from a fish store or was it found
In nature? I would like to find a nice root or something to put in my tank but I'm scared
To do it!

Remember once the ph drops in the lower 6's your BB can start to slow down alot. And once you hit 6 it can stop working totally.

I'll definitely keep that in mind...gonna try shooting between 7.2-7.6..test,test,test&test again...

If you could hit 6.8 I think that would be a good place all the way around for breeding.

Beginning to see a deficientcy in the amazon..ferts have been regular&have placed root tabs near the base of the of the plant..the pics are of new growth..

They like extra phosphate and iron in the substrate. I actually use root tabs that one is just phosphate root tabs and the other are just iron root tabs. Plus my two are so big they just suck up tons of nutrients... hogs that they are.

I am also running a high phosphate tank and am at 1.5ppms possibly going to 2ppms which I think the swords like too. Just something to think about. They don't take alot of nutrients from the water but I believe they are using the extra phosphate to their advantage.

Ok,so how do I go about finding the phosphate&iron tabs? Also seems like the seachem tabs carry more calcium than anything..

I use AquariumPlants.com phosphate and iron root tabs. I also spent the extra money and got the pellet applicator which makes getting them down and close to the roots much easier and without getting wet. Also I'm running my tank at 10ppm nitrates and 1.5ppm phosphates. You might find not only will the swords like it but your non-green plants will love it too.

When I go their site& search for those tabs I get no search results..only tab I was able to locate were the API root tabs on their site...

Day 13 fishless cycling:
ph-8.0
ammo-0ppm
nitrites-0ppm
Finally, nitrites bottomed out...SWEET!!!!For the next 2 days I'll be dosing ammo up 2ppm daily&if everything is still perfect I'll follow up with a huge water change...

Ok,I found em..ordered the 1 bottle of each..how many are you placing around the base of the plants?

Honestly I've never counted plus it depends on the size of the swords. My swords are big so I bet I put about 3 phosphate, 3 iron, and a couple regular root tabs around each sword. I also be sure to keep current on them so I write the date down I use them so I know when they are due otherwise I'd never remember!
