So I've been waiting for a few things to come in:
root pellets(iron&phosphate)
Eheim torf pellets

I did a small wc&took the opportunity to clean the filter then added the torf pellets above the bio-media..when lights come on I'll take some pics...

Last nite I added the eheim torf pellets to the xp1...before adding my ph was 8.0,just checked the ph&it had fallen down to 7.4...no noticeable tannins in the water column at the moment..

Just curious how much do you have to dose of that per gallon?

It came in a 1l bag,I placed just less than a 1/3 of the pellets in the provided mesh bag...I will retest tomorrow to see if the ph has dropped further..also the fish seem fine with no affects from the ph change...

It take it that this is the suggested dosage..&it states to change after 3-6 weeks..

So, noticing better coloration with all the fish in the tank since adding the pellets...

I notice that any time I add a bunch of Almond leaves or peat balls. Not only do the fish seem to color up more but they get more active and often kicks them into wanting to spawn. Peat is a great thing IMO.

Checked the ph earlier today&it was 7.0...this was also wc day,after a 50% wc ph is back up to 7.4...I'll retest in a couple hrs to see what if any diff there may be...

That is the only problem with peat, it tends to expend itself quickly. That's part of what I'm wanting to see with these pellets. How long are they going to be able to keep ph levels lowered when doing weekly WC's.

So the ph has gone back to 8...will be discontinuing the use of the torf pellets...after the wc the ph rose to its original level...this seems to be temporary at best&with stability being the key I think I'll stick with what I've been doing until I come up with an affordable permanent solution...worth a shot at least...

I was afraid it would be short lived but you never know if you don't try. Your best bet might be trying to lower your ph using RO. It's a real pain but at least its effective and you can regulate it very easily.

Yeah I think ro is the way to go as well..its expensive here though,just under $1 gallon...I have 2 100% ro tanks(fluval 6g,10g)that I use up 20g of ro every month with wc's...
