I've stocked my 72 gallon with 13 cichlids and 2 synodontis all are 2 inch or so. 10 mbuna types so I think and 3 slightly larger peacocks. Only been a couple days but I'm concerned I may need more to control aggression? Do I? And also can anyone share what a juvie johanni looks like I got 2 but they look nothing like the pics I e found they're blue and sorta blotchy not striped. I can't get pics they're too fast! In a couple days ill add more if I can / should. Thanks!

13 fish in a 72 gallon is pretty lightly stocked IMO, and can lead to agression issues based on the stock. If you can post some pictures of the fish so we can ID them, then we'll be able to give you stocking and decor advice from there.

Thanks great link! As car as I know I have listed below what I think I have pics are too tough they're never still.
It's hard because some of the juvie colors are conletely diff when they're bigger so its hard to compare!

1 yellow lab
1 looks like ice blue zebra or red top
2 red peacocks
1 ob peacock
2 albino socolofi
2 what they said are johanni but look nothing like them
1 red zebra I believe solid orange w dark shade spot behind gills
1 looks like zebra but no stripes it's DARK almost navy blue / black real cool!
2 blue kenyi I think

And here's a pic of tank. I've added more rock since creating more caves. I've gotta have 20 or so good caves/nooks

Like Mogurako said you may need to add more. Also since it has only been a couple of days they are all probably still working things out. Having just 2 of some species may cause problems as most Mbuna are conspecific aggressive.

Your tank is pretty. 72 Bowfront is one of my favorite tanks. We would love to see some more pics with the added rock and fish :D

Thanks! I basically rearrange and used more slate and placed them better for territories. Looks similar just better suited for them! I see what you mean about 2 of each! Bad idea. I think the socolofi and peacocks will be ok but kenyi I'm really worried about. I have no intention of breeding just wanted a colorful entertaining tank so I will keep an eye on them and when they're Biggs trade him out if need be. I want to continue to add over the weekend and will look for ones NOT like the ones I have - trying to keep one or as many different types I can! BUT how many more do I add? I like the venustus the ahli and the acei and all the peacocks too. Rocks don't go up high they just cover the entire floor so I'm thinking some open water types like these.

Thoughts? And sorry for the book- and thanks for the advice!

if you can shoot a video and post it. We can work of 100% IDs from there.

The Metriaclima species ( Ice Blue, Red Zebra and Kenyi) will hit 6" and are some of the more agressive species. I would personally rehome the Labs/Peacocks if you want to keep the others. My reasoning is, compaired to the Metriaclima and Socolofi they are allot smaller/less agressive. If you want to add a little more color and stay with the large more agressive fish Melanochromis auratus, Metriaclima sp. "dolphin" (Ndonga) and Pseudotropheus crabro would be nice possible addtions. I would shoot for 4-5 species in groups of 4. that will give you roughly 16-20 fish.

As far as Decor is concerned I would go to a local landscaping supply store, pick up more rocks and make allot more caves. My preference is Basalt rock in a more of a natural "pile look" If you'd like you can refernce the rock work in my old 125 gallon hap tank seen in these posts:

Yea I would rehome the peacocks, the ob should be fine since its a mbuna/peacock hybrid.

Thanks for the tip! I love the peacocks too ******. Do you think the yellow lab will be ok? I will try and see if I can get one of many different kingds of larger mbunas with maybe a group of labs in there. Or acei? If I did a group I d rather do just one amongst all the other single types I already have and don't want a crazy aggressive group of auratus or kenyi!!

Labs should be ok, I would say no to the acei there not an aggressive species at all I got rid of mine not too long ago b/c of my aggressive mix. And a group of kenyi or auratus don't sound bad in my opinion.

The yellow lab maybe ok it's hard to tell for sure, with the aggressive Mbuna it's best for them to have groups of their own kind to pick on vs singles.

Ahh I didn't think of it that way. My thoughts were that if there weren't multiple males of one kind there'd be less frequent attacks on a single fish

Here's some pics the dark one not sure what it is and the blotchy blue one ghey labelled electric blue johanni and the yellow fin I'm not sure either what it is
