Id be careful with highlight. Fertilization with macros and micros is necessary and a source of co2. Just flourish comp prob wont cut it.

And using very bright lights doesnt mean you can grow any plant since its considered 'high' lighting

Yes I know this as well. Im just starting so give it time. Just because I got miracle grow and sand doesnt mean im gonna just jump straight in. It takes time. I understand macros and micros. The whole major question was "what substrate" rivercats is extremely knowledgeable here and I trust her judgement! Im not getting mad or nothin but you keep goin off subject when I haven't started that subject yet! 1 thing at a time. I have a 1 tracked mind

On a side note. Here it is. Set up!

What are slopes? What are they for?

Slopes are just little hills in your tank, like have your sand slope forward. So there is more sand in the very back of the tank than the front. Benefits, I'm not sure?

Its supposed to be for breeding. I guess im attractive? He needs a female! New tank!!!

I'm not sure, but that's what I thought I read lol. Uh oh! Another tank, you'll make me have to buy another one lol. :p

Woke up to really cloudy tank water today? Any advice there? Im gonna get a sponge for the filter intake and some poly fill for the tiny particles

That's quite normal and is mostly just the dirt particles that didn't rinse off the sand. I'm actually surprised that your not seeing tannins also. Using a heavy amount of the polyfill will really help over a few days time. I love that cheap media!

Yeah the thing that sucks is I have to drive 20 miles to get it. I wish petsmart would carry it. I put the water in the tank very very slowly. Took almost 45mins for 20g I used a 44 oz cup tooo many times.

Will slowing the filter flow cause problems with the filter?

That looks so big! I like the 20 longs. Your Betta will love that, I thought mine was lucky for being in a 10 lol.

I have 4 males bettas in my 100% planted 220g. When we introduced them they looked like guppies being dumped in the ocean. They really love having all that room and plants. They have been in there for many months. I got the idea from a couple friends, one in town here, that keep multiple males together in really large planted tanks. Most of the time in a heavily planted tank with a lot of space it works quite well but you still have to watch for those occasional males that have aggressive personalities.

You can get 100% polyfill at Walmart, Target, or any craft store. It's way cheaper to get it at these places! I"ve never had any problems with it slowing the filter. It can slow it if enough is used after the polyfill gets really dirty since the dirtier the polyfill gets the smaller the particles it can catch.
