So my neighbor and I purchased a rtc at the same time in same store it's been around 5-6 months since and mine has a much redder tail and has a broad head almost like a bull catfish. his on the other hand has a pale tail almost brown and has a head of a shovel nose. most of the ones I've seen look like his and not one bit like mine anyone know why mine looks like this? His is the one in first pic mine are the others ImageUploadedByAquarium Advice1404173448.577355.jpgImageUploadedByAquarium Advice1404173498.942731.jpgImageUploadedByAquarium Advice1404173517.825907.jpgImageUploadedByAquarium Advice1404173529.409216.jpg

How big is your tank? This fish can get up to 4-5 feet long.

The first one looks normal the other one seems to have some kind of deformity

Maybe yours looks more healthy because it's been in a larger, less crowded tank.

Is it weird that I really want to pet your fish? He looks so soft...hahaha...awkward. I will say if I had to live in a tank I would chose yours. Maybe that's why yours looks awesome.

Good! Your catfish should do better with more space available.

Do you think my redtails body will grow into his big head lol and he's going into the pond in about 1 month it's heated and approximately 700-800 gallons

No I'm using a old pool liner so it will be white with little whales on it lol but you can see right through the water

Let's see the pond it's always good to see a future home for this kind of monster cat

What are the pond dimensions and filtration

The pond is 7 ft long 8ft wide and 4 feet deep I am using 2 pool filters for filtration (low on a budget) and I will post a pic when I get home soon

Here is one in the process I used a hefty brand black plastic under the pool liner.

Hmm, that's not going to be a permanent home for the guy either... There have been several accounts of these guys getting up to 5 feet long by 2 feet tall and 2 feet wide. You'd need it at least a 15 foot by 7 foot footprint for them to have sufficient room to move around if you follow the rule of thumb that your adult fish should have 3 times their length in tank length and 1.5 times their length in width... Those guys get truly massive!

That pond is outdoors where do you live

I don't see the point in put a cat you will never see in a pond like that
They have black backs with white belly

Just my opinion if you think you can enjoy it in that go for it
It looks like you have a lot of work to do to finish and put the cat in in a month
It will take a month to cycle it

You'll need somewhere to put him inside during the winter.
