David: trimmed the bacopa. It decided two heads were better than one.

Pic of the nasty algae:

Get that outta there haha!

That's right! Not baby water lettuce. Maybe the SDs will eat it.
That was some intense staring :)
That often happens when stem plants grow back.
Hydrogen peroxide or excel treatment on the BBA should help.

I chopped off hunks of the fern and pulled some out and rubbed it with peroxide. That's stuff is seriously stubborn. It made the leaves grumpy.
So? Should I pull out the other plants I mentioned too or just keep adding? :)

Growing plants and limited space...it forces you to make some choices. I would remove the java fern definitely. And the other plants you mentioned. Crowding can lead to shading and dropping leaves.

Alright. I don't think I'm going to be able to salvage much of the fern, so I may relocate the bacopa into the back. I just get worried the wood will shade the bottom of it too much. Is it problematic to keep pulling and replanting? I mean I'm sure the fish won't like another disturbance but it's gotta be done. That algae exploded fast and I don't want it to take over.

Waaah Brooks :(
I came home all excited to see how the plants were doing. Ammania looks better, ludwigia about the same.
But the blyxa! :( it's like a wispy skeleton. There were shrimp hordes either eating it or trying to trample it to death. So I made shrimp scampi and peeled all the shrimp right in front of the tank. Poo. Not sure if it will come back from the abyss. I just killed them with cold I guess. I'm sorry.

Trim dead leaves and leave it, this blyxa shipment was a total fail.. stupid blizzard. . I have a few more in a bucket,.heat packs due in @ny day.. more sp. Red too..

When I got blyxa it was not too terribly cold but it got lost en route. It did not melt but did develop a growth of very fine algae on it. Fortunately (a week or so later) new growth kicked in. Hang in there!

I love living in Florida. But hopefully everyone else has their shipment make a full, healthful recovery!

Thank you again for everything and can't wait to keep following and learning!

I'll definitely pay you for more plants once the weather gets better. I'll leave them in and see what happens. I'm just sorry cause you have such beautiful plants and I don't want to disrespect them. I don't know what the shrimps deal is they are like in a frenzy over them.

I'm still waiting to see if any of it will recover. Doesn't look good though. There are a couple stems left that haven't completely melted yet so we'll see...

They're just eating the dead leaves, it's normal. They shouldn't eat the live parts. You might want to scoop it out and trim it like Brookster mentioned to avoid the mess.

There isn't much to trim, they only left a few wisps. I'll keep an eye on it

So I got up today, put on some KMFDM, and went to work on this stupid tank.
I pulled out everything that had algae on it, almost all of the java fern and the sword. I cut and replanted the ammania bonsai and the mauritiana and some of the bacopa. Plugged down the echinodorus. Moved some bacopa back. Cleaned, water changed, ferts dosed. I hate it. I hate it so much. And my stupid cat was yelling at me the entire two hours. I think once the ammania and bacopa trimmings get a little taller and fill in I won't be so mad, but it looks empty and stupid. All of the new plants were dead mush. I took out some of the water lettuce and as much duckweed as possible and tossed it in the 55.
Help me :(

I have shrimp in five different tanks. One thing I've learned is that certain plants they'll ignore, others they turn into salad!

I think your tank looks fine. If you are looking for vertical growth along the back, you could look at crypt undulata, crypt balansae, cabomba, and Vals.
