I'm a horrible person, I let this tank slide for 2 weeks due to massive over burden with work and life in general. Tested phosphates off the chart, would that explain sudden GSA? Nitrates were around 40!!! I suck... pulled about 50 shoots of blyxa out, you were right fresh.. what a mess.. thinned the tank, there was so much crap in there, no wonder nitrates were so high.. I'm going to only run one planted plus until.the plants catch up..mowed down the dhg to encourage spread and growth.. fingers crossed.

Holy Blyxa blowout! Do you have an LFS that will take them off you hands for store credit? Lots of store credit.
Big storm heading your way I believe (not good for shipping this out to the peeps).
Major scapes turn my water to chocolate milk.

Wow making me rethink Blyxa.

How often do you vacuum your sand substrate tanks normally?

I never vacuum substrate, i fan the tube around when I do wc's to catch debris.

I'm in the same boat with maintenance, man. I've been told and did a little research that high phosphates was an aquarium urban legend, good maintenance is the best solution. My nitrates are high too. Every time I do a wc I squeeze out the filters ( usually weekly) and run the hose along the bottom to suck any debris/waste. I recently planted blyxa and can see they are going to be a lot of work. Sucks you have to go through this, but you only have one person to blame....j/k

Yah, tests say I suck.. the stock has nothing to say though?? I've been on point with this tank for months and months. It's crazy how fast things swing in a couple weeks.. I've marked my calendar for 50% wc's every 5 days on this tank. I know rams are sensitive and my buy is giving me a pass on this one.. he won't forgive long term neglect though.. his wild caught gf looks pretty rough, I'm actually shocked she's made it this far in the tap water I provide. One year later she looks as healthy/stressed as possible if that makes sense..

Just wondering what was the urban legend for high phos? On occasion I've had it off the chart so was curious.

Couldn't help.but bring her home, she literally dropped eggs 8.hrs after being in the tank haha.

Big surprise...they're back at it.. his colors were better with the wc girl, she wanted nothing to do.with him and he had to try harder.. I'd rather have him less stressed and less.colored I guess.. she's a little hoosey haha. And.. plants too..

Yay! When will you know about potential babies? Will they guard the eggs?

They've just spawned a 3rd time. Guard the eggs great, im not sure fry stand a chance in a tank with 13 tetras. And a bunch of corys. I havnt seen and wigglers yet..pics as promised, blyxa is doing its things, ar is looking pretty good, I tried it in 2 spots, this spot has higher flow and it seems to like it.. other spot under the spray bar and it's looking pretty sad.. think the myrio mess shades it a bit. I'm thinking this tank needs a new stem plant. Maybe rotala macandra?? The myrio is just to hard to tame, the rotala rotundifolia looks 10x better in the 30l so I wouldn't mind taking it out of this tank, it started in here and a few clippings went nuts under the bml in the 30l, sibling rivalry I suppose.
Dhg is steadily gaining ground while refusing to grow up. I'm going to trim it bug time to entice growth. It's actually creating an arch pattern uniform to the substrate divider I put per sk3lly ' s Advice, good looking out man!! That'd be fun.. blyxa wrapped in dhg pruning.. ehhh
