    Berlin problem

Does anyone here have experience with Red Sea's Berlin Protein Skimmer? I took mine out of my sump to clean it, and now I can't get it to start producing foam again. There are no bubbles or anything in the reaction chamber, and I've already checked to make sure my pump is working okay. Do I...

    dear ol' bubba

Rest in peace Bubba the Lobster! for those of you who don't know, bubba is a 22-lb. lobster in an aquarium up north somewhere who, according to experts, could have possibly been up to 100 years old! He leaves behind a wife, ten children, and countless fans.

    reverse osmosis or de-ionized

that's a 196 total watts of light, giving you a little over 4 watts/gal. That's probably a marginal amount of lighting to keep anemones. Additionally, while others may disagree, I have never had sucess with anemones without using MH. PCs just don't seem to be penetrating enough. wet/dry...

    Prizm Deluxe Skimmer--Help ME!!!!!!

I used to have one too until I introduced it to a hammer. The only way I ever got mine to work was to slow down the waterflow to where it's just barely trickling in. I was able to get some of the good thick dark skim this way, but I don't know if it was even worth it because I had it turned...

    are kole tangs coral-safe?

my tank has a blonde naso tang, a kole tang, yellow tang, hippo tang, imperator angel, false percula, domino damsel, 3 striped damsel with 200 lbs live rock and coral and I've had no problems with them picking on coral.

    naso not eating

i've tried the nori and its been picking at it throughout the day...so far so good. now another question : will nori alone provide a complete enough source of nutrition to maintain the tang in the long run?

    naso not eating

its just a generic brand i bought from my LFS -- i've tried feeding with and w/o it but with the same results...i'll try and get some Nori tonight and see if that works

    naso not eating

I have a blonde naso tang that I got about 2 weeks ago and I can't get him to eat much. every once in a while it'll eat a small piece of food, but not nearly enough to keep it alive for very long. he hasn't been picked on by any other fish and swims/looks normally, but thus far has failed to...

Choosing not to have snails & hermits??

i keep both hermits and snails, but i only have about 10 snails in my 125. they don't really seem to do that much in my tanks and die off too quickly. i keep lots of hermits because they're fun to watch and seem to live longer (i have one that's 4 years old -- i marked his shell so i could...

    Most expensive fish you own/owned

my most was $125 for an emperator angel from the christmas islands that later died after contracting popeye. also had a $120 king (passer) angel. i really want a bluefaced angel, but they're about the same price range and i still have a bad taste in my mouth from other angels that i've kept.

    Copper banded butterfly

I had no problem with mine nipping at corals, but like has been stated I couldn't get mine to eat. I've heard that to induce them eating you can put a partially opened oyster/clam in the tank, but I never tried it. If you can find one at your LFS that accepts food, you should be all set

    NITRATES!!!!

I don't think using beach sand is a very good idea because of the possibility that it may contain contaminants and pollutants (i.e. tar). btw -- what kinda contest did you win?

    Dead Tang

My percula clown (had for 3 years) died yesterday afternoon too for seemingly no reason as well

    Powerheads

mine lasted for about 2 months before the sweep mechanism wore out and the water pressure declined sharply...

    any ideas?

I usually don't worry about the fish growing too much -- they grow so slowly that by the time the tank gets to the point that it's overcrowded, I'll be ready to sell them anyway. I've had both of the tangs that I have right now for 3 years and only the yellow tang has grown -- about 1/2"

    Naso tangs

I have seen a few tanks with several naso tangs in them and they seem to get along very well provided that they are all approximately the same size. also, my LFS right now has a 120gal with 6 nasos in it and they seem to not cause any problems

    Malawi's and Algae

you might try cutting back the duration of your lights a bit...I can't leave mine on for more than about 10 hours without getting a lot of brown diatoms. also check that you are not overfeeding as this can further cause some complications. might want to go get a phosphate test kit as well...

    Good Protein Skimmer

I use the berlin classic as well and it has thus far done an excellent job and was at a fairly reasonable price...check out liveaquaria.com, they have pretty good prices on them

    any ideas?

thanks for the help! I'll definitely look into the angels you all suggested...just to let you know reefrunner, the only reason I am considering ANOTHER tang is b/c the tangs that I have now are very docile. I did have a powder blue tang as well and they got along great, but he died recently of...

    Percula question...

yeah most false that I've seen are usually much brighter than are true ones, but of course there's always the exception. I'd recommend a false one b/c like sokhamik says they tend to be hardier...only thing is, false ones usually don't take to anemones, all else being equal

    any ideas?

i thought about a lionfish, but I don't want to keep up with it's food requirements, as they take a little time (plus I already spend enough time feeding my seahorses). I really wish I could get an angel -- especially a bluefaced or an imperator (my 2 fav. fish), but it's not worth risking all...
