could someone please tell me if there should be a certain distance from the rock and the light or the top of the water my rock on the top seems to turning brown like but the rock on the bottom layer still has very great colors and cause it turned brown it's dead? will it come back

i got some info from this site and was told that old castle or southdown sand is ok so i went out to home depot and bought some, got home and the bag says not reccomended for traction or aquariums is this sand ok or should i not use it HELP thanks

please help i am going to set up a 29 gallon sw tank and i will be putting live sand in do i have to put a coarse gravel under that i have been doing a lot of reading and that is the impression i get i think that i will need around 60 lbs. does that sound right :)
