ahaha.. hopefully that'll be true for my fish!

    Sexing Bolivian Rams

Thanks for your help! I guess as long as they don't hurt each other, I won't stress then... I was just looking at them and they seem to like each other more than they did yesterday... now it seems like they are always swimming together. They even rub on on each other as they swim by each other...

    Sexing Bolivian Rams

I just got two bolivian rams, they are just about 2 inches each. At the LFS, one seemed to have longer darker front rays on "his" dorsal fin than the other, so both I and the LFS girl decided they could be a pair. But now that they've been in my tank for a few days (10 gal. planted with three...

    Fish Tuberculosis?

Update: Well, it's been about 4 weeks since the flame tetra is in the quarantine. After doing salt baths for about a week and Pimafix for another week, I decided to just keep him in quarantine to see how he does. His spine has not gotten any more crooked than it was, so I really suspect that...

    i have platy fry!!!

Congrats!!! If you have enough room to keep them for a bit, you could probably then give/sell/trade them to a lfs.

    feeding

What species of fish are they? What are the water parameters (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, PH, temp)? Is the tank cycled? What other fish are in there if any? Did you just get them today?

    chiclids for a smaller tank

I think a couple of Rams would be fine in a 10 Gallon and they don't destroy plants. These fishies love slightly acidic water, rocks with hiding spots, plants, dark substrate and driftwood. http://www.wetwebmedia.com/FWSubWebIndex/rams.htm

    Faded Neon Tetras

It may be neon tetra disease, in which case you definitely have to take the neons out of the main tank, because it is contagious. I don't believe there is a cure for NTD... however, it may just be some fungus or bacteria, in which case it could be cured with an anti-bacterial solutions. I...

    Cowardly Fish

I know they like shady areas... IMO, if you got some floating plants like java moss, hornwort or other, they might feel more comfortable swimming around. Also, your tank could probaly handle a few more fish, would you consider getting a few more neons? They usually feel more secure in larger...

Sounds like so much fun!!! I hope they hatch well, good luck!

    Emergency! Very sick fish!!

If it's just a fungus or bacteria (probably), it's not contagious and you don't need to treat the whole tank. Bacteria are always around, they just happen to infect fish who are hurt/stressed/weak. I treated a cottony growth on my fish with Pima-fix; it worked really well and didn't stain...

    Sick Ram

It sounds like cotton-mouth/mouth fungus, which is caused by columnaris bacteria. Since the bacteria is opportunistic, it could have infected a lesion your fish got from fighting. Pima-fix worked really well for me when my fish had a cottony growth, the bottle says it treats mouth fungus, it's...

    Fish Tuberculosis?

Thanks a lot Frisckey1 I should definitely start wearing gloves when handling my tanks... On Tuesday I took out the two flames that only had some finrot because they were doing great. Since the crooked fish wasn't looking much better, I stopped the salt dips and am treating the QT tank with...

    Hard water fish?

Most livebearers would do good in hard alkaline water; the POECILIIDAE family has lots of cuties: http://fish.mongabay.com/poeciliidae.htm

    Petstores make me MAD!

You'd think that of all people, the fish guys in a petstore would help new fish owners! My friend came to visit last weekend and she told me how sad she was that the Betta she purchased a couple weeks before died. I asked her a few questions and quickly enough I found out she never put water...

Bent fish - strange change of shape

I've read that once the symptoms of TB are apparent, the fish can die very suddenly, so if you decide to keep it alive, maybe you should keep a close eye on it and make sure you take it out right away if it dies....

    Fish Tuberculosis?

Interesting... thanks a lot menagerie! Yes, they are in with the one that may have TB. You're probably right about it not being very contagious until a dead fish is eaten, so I guess I'll put them in the main tank soon, at the same time it'll avoid them eating the crooked fish if it dies. I'm...

    Cichlids and plants

It depends what kind of cichlid... some eat plants (many vegetarians) and some uproot them but many just enjoy them harmlessly. I've read that Tilapia African cichlids, for example, devour plants.... many South and Central American cichlids uproot them (just place larger pebbles at the base of...

    Fish Tuberculosis?

All the fish ARE eating, I think I didn't express that well. What would you treat their food for, TB, parasites or other? Would you treat the quarantine tank, the main tank or only the crooked spine fish? I read that treatments for TB could only be obtained through vets, that they're...

    Fish Tuberculosis?

Hi! I took a flame tetra out of my main tank and put it in a hospital tank last friday, because a side of it's belly was red and I could see that some of it's scales were flaking off on that area. At first I figured it was just a bacterial infection and was going to do some salt dips and keep...
