("Mineralizing" the soil. Will let the water evaporate completely once before refilling and cap'ing with the gravel.)

If you can get a hold of some laterite clay to put in that dirt the plants would appreciate it. Its a good iron source and imo helps keep the dirt compacted. Meaning it doesnt make as much of a mess when you pull plants up.

Strongly considering bigger fish.

Anything wrong with Oscars? I am brazilian, might go for a Pantanal theme...

Oscars and plants are a nono man.. tank is honestly to small anyways.. rainbows could be cool. A jack Dempsey could work to?? You'd be best to double check that with someone in the know. Mike or gillie would know

Get some angelfish :)

Yah! That's actually a great idea!! Ned's has a whole tank full, some really nice black and white/gold style. Hit me up for an instant cycle if needed..

I like the way bettas look, specially the wild ones. I was putting together this tank as an oversized betta tank like the ones I gained experienced for the last 3 years or so.

I really like the robust, territorial, single master of the space, strong personality kind of fish.

Similar to a betta, is there anything that you can suggest? No oscar was a big turn off! I might just get a bunch of tetras. :~(

Betta macrostoma!!! Got one of those at neds to.. mouth brooders that fetch a pretty penny to the right buyer.

These guys enjoy near stagnated waters, but they do well as groups.

Let me read more about the filtration system compatibility, but this is a good option.

Thank you Brookster!
