4 jade eye cichlids dead in 2 days!

Hi,

1st post I have made on here, hi all, I am just a little concerned.

I have a missed 3.5 foot fresh water tank with 8 jade eye cichlids and 1 common pleco. It's a happy tank and it always clean and crystal clear.

Water changes regular, and it is filtered by a 100L/h external.

I have had the cichlids for 4 or 5 years. 1 mating pair and 1 of the inhabitants is a spawn of those.

I woke up yesterday morning to find 1 dead.

Then today 3 more.

The tank activity seems normal, everyone is swimming happily.

Could it be old age/natural causes?

What should I do?

Water change is due but dodnt know if changing the water is a good idea if there is stress in the tank.

I always do a water change as a first response. Test your water as well as the tap water.

I didn't find your cichlid listed, but I found lemon cichlids live about 8 years. There is a list at this link at the bottom. http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/beginnerinfo/a/lifespan.htm

Thanks for the replies.

So, it doesn't look likely that it is old age. And 4 of them in 2 days doesn't sound like natural causes.

Water change being performed today. I haven't checked the tank yet for any other casualties so hopefully everyone is ok.

Ok, further updates.

1st, thanks for taking time to read my problem and reply

2nd,

I have performed a water change and I have cleaned my external filter and replaced the foams.

I have also checked all my ph and water fully and all seems fine.

I have lost another fish yesterday. Another large cichlid.
I have however noticed that my pleco has got a missing side fin and a mark on his back, is it possible that there has been a rumble?

I am completely stumped now. I am down to my last 3 cichlids now, luckily 2 of those are my mating pair.

Any advice or information is welcome
