Hello all,
I started a fisn-in cycle abuot 2 months ago. After several fish deaths from ammonia I found this place and LOTS of helpful info. I've been testing religously everyday and doing pwc like a madman. I have a 12 Gal Eclipse system with the bio wheel. I also installed a small air stone bubbler in the back. I have 4 fish remaining and 3 ghost shrimp. I work for our local zoo and was able to get a sponge and a handfull of substrate from our aquariums.
My readings as of last night were
AMMO=.25
Nitrite= 0
NitrAte=20
Ph= 7.4
My question is this.
I never saw a Nitrite spike. That is, I Never even saw the color purple. After having all the deaths and trying to keep the remaining fish alive I put the Sponge in the filter box and spread the rocks out. My tank went from about a Ammo=2.0 NO2=0 NO3=0 to a reading of Ammo=.25 NO2=0 NO3=20 over the last month. I wanted to know If I am cycled? Its been about a week since I Put the sponges in.
Thanks in advance for any info.
