I received a 75 gallon tank from a friend the tank had a bumblebee cichlid 2 sail fin plecos and a pictus catfish
How many peacock cichlids can I add

Second i was told the filters needed to be changed what do I need to run a canister filter or should I stick to hang on the back

Does it have a canister filter now?

You can rinse the filter pads in declorinated water, or the pwc water.

You can add a hang on back / HOB filter a AquaClear 110 would be a really good filter.

The beneficial bacteria in the filter media is needed to keep the water safe for the fish.

If you need some helpful pointers and tips, the article in my signature is very useful. Check it out.

I don't know about how many Cichlids you can add. I would get the filter rinsed and make sure the tank is stable before getting any new fish.

Also you might want to consider a test kit, if you don't have one, and also look into setting up a QT /quarantine tank for new fish to help make sure they do catch some illness from the new fish.

Thanks for your reply I have a smaller qt tank for my 20 gallon for new fish
I recently cleaned all the media in the current filter and even replaced some but the water is still cloudy so I was looking at filters and canisters seemed popular for cichlids but wasn’t sure about how they work

Cloudy water can be caused by too much food of some of the bottom fish kicking up the substrate, as the search for food or a enjoyment of digging, and too much ammonia causing a bacterial bloom.

Seachem Purigen, is great for that. API Accu-Clear also works well as adding a polishing filter pad like Fluval

there are various sizes and styles of these pads, this is just one example

Bumblebee Cichlids are MEAN let me tell you! Stay away from yellow and blue vertically stripped cichlids! The one I have even bullies my 12" Oscar! It was mislabled as a Kenyi(spelling?) Cichlid but as it got bigger and the black came through a lot.

That's him stealing my pleco wafer ??*♀️
