African stocking

I have a currently empty 36 gallon bow front and was wanting to get some african cichlids. However the really colorful ones I like all get about 5 inches. I don't want them to outgrow the tank, but is it possible to get a few for a 36? Or is it impossible?

Most people are going to say 55g minimum unless you are doing dwarf cichlids like shell dwellers

That's what I figured, and I've looked at shell dwellers and like the coloring of the electric blue and peacocks much better...thanks for responding!

You cold do electric blue or German blue rams? Tiger barbs? Some other options with color.

Others might have some additional suggestions.
