nicuraqua cichlid breeding question. ?

I just finished setting up my 55gal tank. It have two HOB Aqua Clear 110 filters and a 300W heater in there. I bought 8 Red eye Tetras and a male female pair of nicuraquan cichlids yesterday. I plan on adding a pleco, some more schooling fish and some skunk loaches. I'm wondering if anyone has ever kept these cichlids before. I've breed many cichlids but never kept these kind. They are always together but the problem is I think my substrate is too big for them to make pits to spawn in. Please let me know if it is and also any other additional info. I'd hate to switch out the gravel bit I will if I have to.
Also never mind the socks behind the tank. Haha. I need a back drop yes it does look homeless but oh well.
