Mystery animal!

Well i have seen this animal at nght mostly moving around that looks like a snail with no shell but I am not sure if that is what it is that. It slithers like a snail and the outside of it is kind of spiky like. It has spots on its body and the head kind of looks looks like it opens kinda like a clam shell would if that makes sense. It is also more flattish than circular. It is about 1/4 to 1/2 in in length. Any help would be great.
