Imagine my shock when I lifted the tank lid this morning to be greeted by a clutch of eggs the size of my thumb. I would assume they have come from my apple snail. They must be unfertilized as there is only one snail in the tank..... I am assuming that would be true and 2 snails would be needed? Anyone shed some light on this?

Apple snails can store sperm for up to 6 months. Congrats! Here's a link that will help applesnail.net :)

I have 2 that laid eggs over a month after I brought them home & they are not in tanks with any other snails. They each laid 3 clutches over a week to 2 wks time but haven't done so again . . . yet. I remove the eggs because I don't want more.
