I got a bristlenose pleco from the live fish store and I was wondering if there were any skin markings or such other than nose bristles to tell its type. It may be too young to have the bristles it needs to show it's identity.

Some females never get bristles.

For males its like a "check out my awesome beard, lets mate" kinda thing

What size is the fish?
My two boys started getting bristles when thy where about 2-2.5 inches long.

It's about two and a half to three inches. It has a white spot at the end of its top fin and tail fin. Do these markings give any identity?

I'd have to agree with people who believe its a bristle nose. The bristles grow at different rates for different fish I have smaller fish that have longer bristles than the bigger ones... By the look of it's body shape and the small bristles coming... Congratulations it's a boy! Bristlenose
