Can/do Bettas and Guormis co exist?

I have two tanks, a 12 gallon with a betta and a 55 gallon with 2 guormis and a cory cat. I'm thinking I want to add fish to the 55 gallon that may not work with the Guormis (I may change my mind though, lol). Can the betta and guormis live together? I've seen that they can be compatible with caution, but I'm looking for real life experience. The betta would be the smallest of the fish, with the exception of the cory cat.
