how do i know if the current from my HOB is too strong or too weak? and how on earth do i adjust it????

half of my tank seems still and half of my tank has movement and i don't notcie that any of the fish spend time in one half more than the other.

i just want to make sure the environment is right for my fish.

(currently oto's, cory's, ram's and cardinals)

What you really need is good turnover. The amount of current isn't as important as ensuring there are no dead spots where algae can grow and ammonia/nitrIte can build up. HOB's are probably the worst of the filter types in this case because they essentially waterfall into a small area as opposed to a canister which generally has several spraybars to evenly keep the tank mixed.

If a larger tank (>=20gallons) you might think about getting a small PH to keep a slightly current in the tank. As long as your filter is rated for your tank size ammonia won't be a concern.
