Water change question

I had to do a partial water change because I added too much ammonia, I did about 50%. Will that affect my nitrItes? I just stated to get them really going in my cycling.

So I guess my question is, are the nitrItes in the water, or are they in my filter/sand/plants?

it will knock down your nitrites, but it won't matter. your nitrite->nitrate bacteria won't starve to death from that.

The nitrites got there somehow, that means that the ammonia => nitrite bacteria are working, so they'll make more, no biggie.
