Are platy's plant nibblers?

My platy's seem to be going to town on my live plants. Is this common?

mine seem to love the giant cork screw i have...but the poor plant seems to be growing faster that what the platies eat from it so you cant really tell...i just happened to catch them a few times doing that...

The platties I had in the past loved to eat plants and algae. I only had platties in the tank and completely quit feeding them.
