I want to convert my 55 community tank into a planted tank. I know I need two hoods but what kind of light do I need? Can I keep the fake plants with the new real plants I want to get. Basically I want some more hiding places for my new fry.
I have been using a lamp I got from dollar tree to light my tank as my budget has been tight. Now my budget is getting better I want to finish setting up my community tank and add plants. Majority of my fish are guppies but I also have two mollies.

Yes you can keep plastic plants with real plants and the general rule for lighting a planted tank is 1 to 2 watts per gallon of water. One being if your the room you have the tank in is bright and two if the room is dark. Hope this helps
