Had to replace my 55 gal FO tank because of a reoccurring leak. While I was at it i did away with the UGF but stuck with the original 306 Fuuval. I replaced all the original crushed coral substrate with a regular dry fine sand as the other was no longer necessary with out the UGF. I managed to use all but a few gallons of the original tank water, which was quite a chore trying to keep fish and water temps stable in 3 tanks at the same time. I did reuse some of the old pieces of hard coral and the original filter media hoping to get enough established bacteria in the system.
Its been two weeks now and so far so good. Water chemistry is right on the money and the fish are apparently having no problems.
Does anybody have any suggestions for anything that I should be on the alert for? The old tank was about 3 years old and from day one it had an algae problem and a very small leak as well.
