Sump for a 10g possibility

Hi everyone, I have a spare 3g cylinder tank I was going to use for shrimp, but never got around to stocking it so I wanted to see if it's possible for it to become a sump for my 10 gallon planted tank. My only concerns are about the drilling of the 10g, and that the 3g is made of some sort of plastic. Tell me what you all think, suggest, etc!

The 3g sump is too small. The only thing you should be able to fit is heater and return pump and then some other small equipment.

If you fail the drilling of the 10g, then no big deal since you can get another one for $10.
