betta breeding issue

me and my girlfriend are attempting to breed our different kinds of bettas. we are taking all the right steps and the fish are doing all the right things and squeezing out her eggs and putting them in his nest. but after the first few hours the nest gets smaller and smaller and by 24 hours his nest is almost down to nothing and all the eggs have disappeared like he gave up and ate them... any advice?

I would google a breeding guide. What is the tank set up? Water parameters? What are you using for him to build his nest? Lettuce? Almond leaf? Did you condition them?

Are you using a styrofoam cup that has been cut in half and floated and taped in position from above the water line to hold his nest?
