So I was thinking of my weird obsessions I have and then looked at my planted tank, saw my little ghost shrimp and realized how much i love them.

So my odd obsession for aquariums anyway is ghost shrimp, I do not know why but I want to go out and buy like 100 of them.. they are so cool to watch picking through the gravel and eating.. I could watch them for hours..

So what is your obsession regarding your aquarium anyway.. is it a certain plant you love? A fish you cant get enough of.. snails? anything let me know, so i don't feel like I'm just plain odd.

Or even doing something like water changes, you just like doing them, I dunno!

I guess my obsession is somewhat different than what you're looking for. Mine is more like OCD. I do water changes whenever i have time. I do at least 50% every week, sometimes twice. I dont let algae get in my tanks at all, and when i did, i immediately fixed it. I wont let anybody feed my fish because of the fear of overfeeding. I dont let people tap on the glass. I'm very protective of my tanks and everything in them.

Nah thats an awesome odd obsession :p, is it healthy to do that much water changes? I am always scared to do too much! But then again I use tap water, what do you use? Thats awesome that you are protective over them, that's a good thing :D

Me too Rookie, you are not alone! :D
My obsession in my tanks is Destructor and Goldie, my mystery snails. I could sit and watch them for hours and hours also, because they are too cool. Except they poo alot.

I just adore my fancy goldfish, Lady. I worry so much about losing him . . . but he's been a tough old fishy and has managed to survive my n00biness, where I didn't know there was such a thing as PWCs, nitrites and whatnot, and the one inch of fish per two gallons rule. Poor Lady!

yes, its very healthy. clean water is always good for fish. i just use tap water and prime... and a python since doing a 50% pwc on a 150g tank would be quite the job with buckets lol

Mine is my newly aquired Kribs (Kribensis Cichlid). Ive wanted a pair since i started keeping fish, but couldnt find any fish store that carried them, and last night i saw an add for a pair on craigslist and i called first thing this morning and now i have my kribbies!! And a very knowlageable breeders phone number :)

Oh and i do 20% changes every wed morning

Care and maintenance is my obsession . Feeding , observing the inhabitants' health and well being (in other words making sure they are healthy and happy) , pwcs' , cleaning and water tests .

Like with my dogs , I find enjoyment in what others find as chores .

My wife calls all my animals my obsession . For my birthday for example , when asked what I wanted for a gift , I told her a new back-up heater for my aquarium , new leads , pizzle sticks and cow hooves for my three dogs and maybe a gift certificate for Fosters and Smith .

I have many obsessions with this hobby so I'll try to be brief. ;)

First is maintenance. My tanks have to be clean. I only let algae grow in two of them, and that's for our ghost shrimp and red cherry shrimp. They grub down on it.

Second is decor. The tanks have to be pleasing to me. I have to get a sense that I am in as close to the inhabitants natural environment as possible. With our BW tank I did go a bit cutesy with the balinese dragon bubblers and balinese lantern, but it made for a nice oriental theme for the dragonfish. I'm so picky that I have plans to re-do our 29g (again).

Third is the inhabitants themselves. I never order fish online because I can't see what I'm getting. I'm picky. They have to have good color and be healthy before I put them in QT.

Fourth is feeding. I'm picky on which tank gets what food and how much. We have 11 tanks, most have the same feeding requirments but some are specialized. Our 120g has two crayfish, they need greens at least twice a week. I hand feed them. Our bumblebee gobys in the BW tank will actually starve if I don't do frozen /live brine shrimp or blood worms at least 3 times a week. Feeding them is not as easy as you'd think. They are slow, the mollies, dragonfish, glassfish and shrimp beat them to the food so I have to get a good start on the other fish and then pour their food in a corner.

Fifth is equipment. For birthdays and Christmas I always ask for something dealing with the tanks. *Sigh* Which is why I deperately need to go clothes shopping.

Wow awesome obsession guys :p. My new obsession is plants, I am trying to find a local who has a ton of plants they want to sell because the LFS is just way to expensive (10 dollars a plant!!). I did however find someone selling a ton for around 1-4 dollars, but they live 45 minutes from me, once i get paid I might head up there and super fill my tank..

Only thing is I have gravel at the moment, and I feel as tho its not the best as a substrate, thinking of switching.. but the process is well a process.

Was reading up on it and i guess to fully fullfill my obsession gonna need to get a new light and some good quality substrate :p.

too bad you dont live near me, id give you all you wanted :) I just remembered another obsession i have. I will NOT put anything in my tanks that does not look natural (other than necessary equipment)... i wont run air stones, fake plants, cheesy decor, colored gravel, any of that. Sand, rocks, plants, driftwood, fish. Thats all, and i wont use meds either. Only natural stuff like pimafix and melafix ;)

Same here Paulie lol. Mfd will help me out... if he ever comes here to pick up his rocks and give me my plants! lol jk

Yeah, I want to get rid of a lot in my tank, but i just cant afford to :(. The thing that stinks is I have lets see probablly 12 fish, 5 gourmai, 6 tetra, 2 ghost catfish, clown loach, 2 molly, ghost shirmp, well 17 fish. And no other tank to put them in while I completely redo my tank.

I want to get rid of the gravel, get a lot more plants, driftwood, remove the stupid seashells, and make it look amazing :(, two bad I cant find someone with plants that are already 1-2 feet tall, Let me try to get a picture on here so I can show you guys, my sad obsessions.

I'm leavin the gravel, although I got the natural looking gravel. I also need more plants and dw and to remove the seashells and the rest of the fake dw lol. You can look at my thread to see what I've done so far: 10 gallon Conversion
