New clown normal?

I just bought an ocellaris clown today and i acclimated for an hour but he has yet to move from one spot just waddling like always. Seems fine but just wanted to know if it is normal?

Definitely agree with Sadie. First off, you need to let your new livestock get accustomed to their new surroundings.. so don't expect them to do or to go where you want them to when you first want them because i'm sure they won't know. They need to explore the tank little by little and find out where everything is.. at least that's how my fish went about it. Both my ocellaris clowns and my firefish all stayed in one corner of the tank the first week but then began branching out and then started to swim all over the tank. But mainly were i was dropping food in to the tank lol.

Second, clowns are known to do some weird things like host powerheads or sleep upside down and all that jazz.. so if you see them doing some weird stuff.. chances are that's just normal.

Congratz on your new fishy friend. Ocellaris are pretty cool clowns.

Thanks a lot. Another thing I know you said that clowns do wierd things but my clown is sleeping next to my thermometer in a vertical position almost at the surface. Is this normal? I'm kind of concerned.

Yeap, my clown does the same thing and I have had him for two years.

They aren't called Clownfish for nothing. You can worry when:
He's gasping. (Breathing heavily)
Lying sideways on the bottom or floating on top.
Has a little spots all over him.

Otherwise, it's probably a clown being a clown.

It has me concerned though. Its his second day and he doesnt move from the thermometer even with the lights on. He just stays near the surface and sometimes stays a while with his mouth at the surface. If its an oxygen problem how do i fix it? I believe there is enough surface agitation. I had 2 blue damsels in the tank for about 2 weeks and they did fine.

give him time perhaps turn the lights out for another day .. Run some tests to make sure your water is good.. and lightly feed then lights out ... They need to feel safe and as others have said it takes some time ....
If he is not breathing heavy or white spots (like salt) or laying on the ground he is still acclimating , I have a YWMG that I did not see for nearly a month after adding then one day "hello here I is " It is just up to each clown as to how the adjust

Well the good news is that he is no longer at the surface. He just hovers in a corner near the bottom. Now my concern is that he will not eat. I drop the food right in front of him and nothing. Not even an attempt.

My clown does something weirdly different just about everyday. Right now he acts like he's totally in love with my turbo snail. He even lays on the rock that the snail is on and just watches it. Sometimes he get too close and the snail slams it's shell on his nose. Too cute.

Thanks. I will give him time. I dont feed much. Just one pellet to see if he goes for it. I dont believe my tank will get too bad. Thanks a lot though.

My Yellow Clown Goby didn't move or eat for 3 days.. and i was worrying just like you are now. 3 to 4 days later.. he chases down food and now explores my tank. Like i said before, don't expect anything to happen with the first week of having the fish, maybe even a bit longer. You need to give them time to adjust. If it's 2 - 3 weeks down the road and he still won't move much or eat.. then you can start worrying. But by then, it might be already dead lol.. if it hasn't eaten for 2 weeks i don't think it would be doing that good.

Just give it time.

Thanks. My hermit crabs seem to be doing fine and have eaten what the clown has not. lol. I hope he makes it fine. So it is normal for him to go up to the surface when lights out?

Mine sleeps up at the top, laying parallel with the glass wall. He tried to host with the mag float, but he's since gave up on that.

Hello. I would just like to clarify whether or not it is normal for my clown to be at the surface during lights out. Then when the lights are on he swims back down towards the bottom.
