As a few of you know, I cashed in like others here on the dollar per gallon deal at Petco. Equipment is on the way and will be here by the end of the week. The pine Ikea chest of drawers is just as stable and level as my overpriced wooden stand that was designed just for my other tank. Sigh.
The tank -
40g Breeder
The Goodies -
Hagen Glo T5HO double 39w 36" fixture with Glo-Life II bulbs
2x Fluval C4
A bunch of Seachem Matrix to fill the spot where the carbon would go in the C4s
Substrate -
~60/40 separated layout of Eco Complete & PFS (see the horrible lit, badly butchered picture of the tank in leak-test mode below for the type of layout). The reason for the PFS is that I enjoy fish who play in the sand and would like to have it in there in the event that I stock something that does.
Thoughts:
I'm looking forward to trying out the C4's. Aquaclear have never failed me but I felt like trying something newish, and canisters weren't an option in this particular spot.
I was going to get a Fishneedit fixture for this thing (the double 39w or a 150w MH pendant) but they still don't have them in stock as of my writing this and I'm tired of waiting. I love Hagen though so in a way I'm excited about the light.
The Eco Complete areas will mostly be occupied by a few large plants near the far corners with driftwood branches behind/among them. I may also have to find a large chunk of petrified wood to straddle the divide between PFS and Eco on the left to offset the balance even more. Thinking about putting a few nana in the foreground.
As for the actual divide, I'm on the fence between molding acrylic dividers or just using some of these nifty layered rock pieces I have that sort of interlock.
I'm going to run the silent cycle like I usually do, with about 12oz of bio-max from other established tanks to kick things off. Not entirely sure what residents this tank will have, but I am sure that it will be an odd crowd. Not in terms of individual selections, but as a whole. First guy to go in is a very misbehaving cichlid that is in a tank which is getting torn down in favor of this one.
MTS is contagious, I hope you all get a strong case of it from me
