10kk means a million of something. Who knows. The light is definitely sufficient.

I like the HOB moss waterfall idea lol

K (in this case) stands for kilo. The prefix kilo means 1000. Basically, that is the same as 10,000K. It's just a shorter way of saying it. Then the K at the end stands for kelvins, as in color temperature. This is indeed an awesome light. :)

What a great deal then, I got it for $20

I was going to buy some Excel but the owner told me to "save my money". I feel like he was implying it was no-good. Should I get it?

It's not very powerful, but it has the right color temperature. You will definitely be able to grow low light plants with it.

He said its a 7watt T5HO 10,000K.
T5HOs put out a lot of light ;)

You can't judge them by watts per gallon.

I wasn't. T5HO is too general. This specific one is enough for a very small tank, but for a 5 gallon its light intensity is not very good. The best way to determine if a light has enough intensity is to check PAR. You can't just assume that it is an awesome light just because it says high output.

All that matters to me is that I can grow plants. I do feel the light I have is very good, obviously not in a high or medium-ish light range, but way more sufficient than any starter kit hood. Therefore, it is an awesome light.

My tank is starting to clear up. Also, I might pick up some more plants Sunday! :D

Just so I can follow this, I thought I'd comment :) I know in your previous thread you were talking about getting a Pygmy sunfish, so I thought I'd post a pic of one of my little guys for you :) the snail in the pic is a zebra nerite that is only about a 1/2 inch across

Yes, it is a good light to grow plants. It's not one of those overrated expensive fixtures that supposedly grow all plants, but it can grow most, and that is pretty much all you need.

They are soooo cute! Lately I'm just worried about starting up a jungle;) I have been doing research on Pygmy Sunnies, sparkling Gouramis, Scarlet Badis, Peacock gudegeons. I want a centerpiece fish. But that descision will have to wait until my plants have grown in size and numbers. Where did you get yours?

EXACTLY! For a standard t8 fixture I probably would have paid more than 2x what I did for my t5 fixture. So, I'm happy :)

I have three pygmys in my 40 and I can only seem to find one lol not the most active fish haha these ones were collected in the okefenokee swamp and I actually met the guy that collected them, they're awesome little fish, just not the most active, or at least not in my tank XD

Actually looking for less active fish for my 5G, I don't want any one to be cramped.

Yes. My club has a community PAR meter. We sign up to borrow it :)

So HO lights aren't intense ???
