I have a 40 tall tank that I'm going to be setting up. I am using organic miracle grow with a sand cap. Then some plants and MAYBE a small group of tetras (7-10 fish).. The question is can I get away with a aqua clear 30? Seeing that the bio load won't be that large I was hoping it didn't need to much filtration. Thanks.

I would go with a good filtration
Later on, trust me, you are going to be getting some fish that are quite messy, and that isn't going to be enough, your plants might help, but it all depends on what plants they ae

Yeah I think I'm going I'm going to get a aqua clear 70

Yes, there you go, I have a 55 gallon filter with one 55 all on tank, I upgraded to two 80 gallons, some fish are pretty messy, but it's all worth it, what type of plants do you have?

I just have the tank, dirt, sand and wood. Haven't set it up yet. I also have the heater and aqua live 6500k T5 HO light. I have a 100 gallon cicid tank with two fluval 405s... This tank is going to be my nano planted tank.... Small fish or shrimp

Ok, if you are going to put your plants, you HAVE to put I. Some fish, the plants need the ammonia of the fish to grow, no fish, the plants will die

I have anacharis plants, they are the hardiest plants I ever had, they are the best ammonia filters I've ever had, they give off a lot of oxygen, and they grow like crazy!

I think I have them in my other tank. They were giving to me.

Actually plant wise, they don't need ammonia. They actually use mostly nitrates. Which, he can have a super low bioload given he doses ferts. If you are just going to have shrimp and 10 tetras and shrimp you can get by with a smaller filter.
