Looking for advice from anyone with experience keeping these fish and which they would prefer to keep in a species tank.

I have both and temperament is very different with Rusty's being more docile. Dems can be super aggressive so a species only fits them well or u could do both they won't crossbreed with the right M/F ratio.

Im leaning that way actually. The most nastiest aggression ive witnessed was a demasoni too and it was quite ruthless. But i think with large group and enough space i would be able to get around the aggression.

From what I've been told, rusty's will try and breed with anything lol

True, but if in a species only setting the the chances are lower

Don't "shake your head" when that's how you worded it ;)

And if you mix rusty's and demasoni, it's kind of a fire and ice mix, and if you don't have enough demasoni, you're definitely going to end up with issues

Yea well I mention keeping both, and I also mentioned keeping the right m/f ratio to keep aggesion down. And I've seen plenty Dem and yellow lab tanks and Rusty's are right around them in temperament.

Never said anything about them hurting the rusty's...demasoni are highly conspecific aggressive, and adding a second species will lower their overall numbers.

Smh again I'm sure the op will have a tank big enough dems stay small so I don't see how. And really the right m/f ratio solves that any way.
