Some type of fungus is growing in my fry tank and it has me worried! I'm planning on doing a 20 percent water change and getting something to help suck up the possible mold tomorrow.

First off I have a few questions.

1)Will it hurt my fry?

2)What is it?

3)What caused it?

This growth is an indicator that your water chemistry or quality is poor. The growth is not as dangerous to your fry as the conditions that caused this.

What are your tank parameters (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, temp, pH)? Please give exact values.

How large is the tank? How long has the tank been set up?

What type of filtration are you using? Please give the name and number (i.e. Fluval 304) and amount of gph if known.

How many fish are in the tank? What kinds of fish are they and what are their current sizes?

When is the last time you did a water change and vacuum the gravel? How often do you do this? How much water do you remove at a time?

How long have you had the fish? If the fish is new, how did you acclimate it/them?

Have you added anything new to the tank--decor, new dechlorinator, new substrate, etc.?

Oooo I'm not sure in this one to be honest. I would do a few water changes to get your water quality top notch and maybe dose 1TBSP per 5g of water. I'm not sure if that will eliminate it but it looks like it's from over feeding to be honest. I could very well be wrong though. If you only have platys in that tank then you are safe with dosing the salt like I recommended. You want aquarium salt not table salt

Okay the other day when I first noticed it I put a little aquarium salt in there but it didn't seem to make a difference. Tomorrow I'll clean it pretty good but not to much so I don't disturb the baby fry.

I would honestly remove the fry and clean the tank with peroxide since the salt didn't help. I'm not sure where the mold came from at all

The first picture just looks like mold or fungus growing on un eaten food.

+1, I'm not sure if you have a food accumulation around you air stone (or filter) but if that's it your feeding too much and too big piece, I had to keep a fish in quarantine and over fed and it, the food looked like that the day after, my water was perfect. But if it's a very small tank it could produce ammonia poisoning I guess, did you test your water ?

It's one tank. The first picture is of the top and then the second picture is the bottom. In the first pic the thing at the top is a pantyhose I read that it's good to put one over the filter so the fry doesn't go in there

Can you take a pic of the full tank? What size is it?

I'm pretty sure I must have over fed them because somewhere I read said feed them three times a day but didn't say how much to feed them.

I feed them really small pieces, (like crushed to powder almost), 3x a day a small quantity, (half the size of a quarter maybe) then more if they're still hungry, I have over 75 now, and the oldest are maybe 1 week old.. I'm pretty sure it's over feeding.

Me too. I do crush up the flakes. I actually have this mixture I feed them it's baby brine shrimp, blood worms, flakes, and pellets. Could it be the mixture?
