10gal stocking. What will breed besides guppies/platies?

Hey guys I am new to doing a 10gal tank I have done 75s 55s and 40breeders. But now have decided to do a 10gal for the heck of it. I'm wondering what I should put in.
I'm open for suggestions but I would like something easy to breed. I enjoy cichlids but don't want shell dwellers. Maybe kribenses? Anyway I'm looking for more then just guppies.

Every fish is breedable, the only problem is knowing how to do this. If you want live bearers then I would say Molly's

Endlers, sorta like a guppy, are easy to breed. You could also go with some kilifish.

mollys get too big,so do kribensis. red cherry shrimp look good and breed easily

I have mollies in now ( Temporally) I like the killifish idea and at my LFS we have some beautiful gold wonder Killi. I like that and the cherry shrimp idea. My question is how would I go about breeding them. What are the triggers the complications ect.
Also I know they get large but when I used to breed Kribs non stop I had 3pairs 2 in a 50long and one in a 10gal with cory cats and some dither fish. I don't recommend that though a 15gal would be the lowest I would go.

You must have a top if you have killifish. They jump all the time and breeding just excites them even more. You can look up videos online, but killies are weird fish when it comes to breeding. They need a "mop" to breed in, I was using water lettuce because they get the leafy roots. You have to remove the eggs and put them in soil for some time and it's an odd process. You can google exact instructions to get a better explanation.

Cherry Shrimp are easy. Clean water. Sponge filter or cover HOB filter intake w sponge or pantyhose. Some moss or easy live plants. Should breed within 2 months.

Haha Thats so cool. You have just made up my mind to do a shrimp tank with 2 GW killifish and maybe baby Bushy nose plecos. What are those white and red striped shrimp? Also. Will fake plants work well? Or dose it have to be live. For shrimp and killi.

Red Cherry Shrimp (RCS) need live plants. Part of their diet is biofilm. They eat this off the tank walls and off the plants. Plus mosses or other dense plants give the babies places to hide. I don't know if GW Killies are Shrimp safe. Many fish will eat them.
Nano fish like Celestial Pearl Danios may be ok. I'm hoping to breed those next.

The red and white shrimp are Crystal Red Shrimp (CRS). They are much pickier on water parameters. I'd start with Cherries and then try CRS.

I don't have fancy lights or CO2. I use 2 screw in compact fluorescents in my cheap incandescent fixture. I used black Flourite sand capped with pretty Tahitian Moon Sand. I have a couple of pieces of driftwood and a rock.

Java Ferns, Java Moss, Crypts, there are lots of low light easy plants.

I got many of mine as ROAKs via TPT. I bought a couple. I bought some Flame Moss and Fissidens recently. I joined a local planted tank club and have gotten a ton of plants for free plus met nice people.

I would do Otocinclus in a 10g. Or maybe pitbull Pleco ? BN are great, but may get too big. Plus the shrimp eat algae and need biofilm. Too many Plecos would starve them. My Shrimp love grooming the Mosses.

Golden Wonders get up to 4" long, too big I think for a 10usg. Maybe you should have a look at some smaller Killies.

Actually, I feed basic liquid plant food once a week after my partial water change. I'm using API Leaf Zone, Seachem Flourish is good also.

This tank I only change 10% a week. The only fish are 2 Otos and even with all the Shrimp and snails, the bio load is small and the plants keep the water good. Plus since I added the CRS, they don't like big changes.

I may just start topping off with Distilled or R/O water. Shrimp don't typically like CO2. When I tried 1/2 strength liquid CO2 I lost shrimp.

My other tanks I do 25 to 30% PWCs weekly. If i just had RCS I'd be able to do larger changes if I wanted. Cherries are tough boogers once they get established. One club member accidentally had some living in a bowl of water in some plant clippings for a month.

Or ... Lots of micro Rasboras or Danios that are mostly Shrimp safe.

If you get your Shrimp colony going, get the plants going, then add some fish, even if they eat some baby shrimp your RCS should breed fast enough to keep ahead of some predation. Or set up RCS in smaller tank and restock 10g periodically.

My shrimp went from 15 adults to 100 shrimp in 6 months or so.

I went out today and bout 3GW killifish. I'm going to move them now! I have 4 saphraie tetras 4 small rasboraas*? they came from a mix of them so I grabbed 4 of the same. I bought 5 CRS and 8 RCS. Their is still the 3 mollies and 2 cores in. Should the shrimp be ok? I put a small ball of JM in and some java fern along with 2 tiny prices of wisteria. Any suggestions. Btw those little S***s were pricy 30$ for 4 CRS.

I told you start with Cherries. NOT Crystals. The Mollies and other fish will EAT them !!!

Put the Shrimp into a bowl with the moss. Return them or give them a cycled tank with proper water params and proper shrimp safe tank mates !!!

Otos are the only truly shrimp safe fish. Nano Fish w tiny mouths (none of yours are this type) are usually safe with adult shrimp.

GW Killies are too big for a 10g. Mollies should have at least a 20-30g.

Impulse buying will kill your fish. Save your Shrimp and rethink what you are putting in your 10.

CRS are VERY sensitive. NOT Good for a new tank !!!

Ok sorry for freaking out. I re read your post. I see you got some Cherries. You could set up a 3-5g just for the Shrimp. Use aged tank water from one of your established tanks. A small Aquaclear HOB filter, squeeze a used filter into it, jump start

I just love my Shrimp and I want you to enjoy yours as well.

The fish are out the rasboras are fine they are under .5in and stay there. The mollies and GW went to a 20l the rest went to my friend. As for the water it is fine it's been cycled using " Dr. Tim's One and Only" a aquarium starter that works right away. I like your set up. Sine it isn't copy righted I'm going to steal it. Haha but thanks for the info. Any extras on how to care for the shrimp.
Btw I bought the CRS by looking them up from the pic. It was before you said not to at first. :/ will they be ok?

Also filter wise I have a small ehime on now. I will buy a aquaclear 50 Thursday and also buy a extra sponge and do the spine over the intake. I'm going to me this the most bad a$$ shrimp tank ever look ma no hands!

I run an Eheim on one of my 10g s I just turn the flow down. For a 10g a AC 20 should be fine. Don't want to throw shrimp around too much.

I like the Aquaclears as you can get a sponge prefilter (I buy a Fluval one), it's round and already cut out in the center. With little or no trimming it fits over my intake screen. A sponge or piece of pantyhose will keep Shrimplets out of the filter. Plus the Shrimp graze on the sponge debris like a salad bar.

I lost a few of my CRS. So now I do smaller water changes. Some breeders never change water, they just top off with R/O or Distilled. Some add stuff to re-mineralize the water. I'm lazy. So I'm only changing 5-10% weekly now. I may start topping off with a blend of 1/3rd tap water with Prime conditioner and 2/3rds Distilled.

I feed a wide variety of food. Shrimp Lab has good supplies. Their Shrimpball Cuisine is good. I got Azoo Max Breed and White Pellet. I feed Omega One Algae Wafers, Color Flakes and Shrimp Pellets. Hikari Micro pellets.

And blanched zucchini, spinach, romaine, etc....

I only feed 1x a day. I skip a day if they don't eat eagerly. I don't heat the tank. CRS like STABLE conditions. Not too hot. I turn off lights during the hottest part of the day. I may add a small heater this winter, but I doubt it. My room stays pretty stable.

No CO2. I do use ferts, but I add half strength. I did add Osmocote for my Chain Swords, but buried them well.

GL. The Planted Tank forum also has a lot of good info. Try to find a local club as well. Great resource !!!

The Shrimp may take a week or two to settle in and eat well. Don't worry. And check out pics of molts. If you see a clear shrimp it's not dead it's a molted skin. Leave molts IN. Shrimps eat them to regain minerals.
