Hi all
We just got a 150 gal tank and it has a corner of it sectioned off as the filter area. We have no clue how to set this up! I'll post pics if it so far.
As you can see it has a trickle down top I think. But what confuses me are the two Giant holes in the bottom of the section? Really don't need 150 gal of water on my floor! Any advice would be amazing!!

Here's a couple of articles on sumps,

Melevsreef.com - What is a Sump?

Melevsreef.com - Install a Sump in an Existing Setup

Basically the two holes are a drain and a return, it's a loop the water drains into the sump below the tank flowing water through media pads or bioballs/pot scrubbies then a return pump flows water up the pipe back into the tank. I have three tanks running sumps and couldn't be more pleased, your water level doesn't drop in the display tank, gives you a place to hide heaters, higher oxygen exchange, more surface area for bactiers growth, and a higher overall water volume.

The long pvc pipe that is currently connected is your return pipe which is connected to that pump. The other hole needs another pipe and will be your drain pipe Both of these pipes will have to go to a sump.

Take a look at the lafishguys.com and watch all the parts of Episode 51, Setting Up A Reef Tank. You will see how the tank gets hooked up to the sump from start to finish. You don't have to set it up this way, but will get the general idea.

Yikes I would drain that tank. You are not ready to get it setup yet.
