I thought I would start a thread for my 20 gallon long tank at work.

I am having a problem with my Ausie gold hammer. It closed up and I don't know why. Everything else in the rank is fine including my frogspawn.

Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening?

They are sensitive to salinity yes. What is your salinity? Has the coral been moved recently?

How are your other parameters? Any recent changes? Water changes, top
offs?

My salinity dropped to 1.021, i unplugged the top off and mixed some saltwater to add to the sump to try and bring it back up. Its at 1.023 right now. The hammer hasn't been moved since I placed it in the tank. I am testing the tank on my lunch break. Will post the test later. The hammer sits right next to my frogspawn. The frogspawn is open and looks happy. My cinnamon clown was trying to host with the hammer. I don't know if that had anything to do with the hammer closing up.

I would imagine it is the clown harassing it that's making it close up... Especially if everything else seems happy and ok. Looks like that could be the only significant variable...

Here are my tests.
Ammonia - 0
Nitrate - 0
Nitrite - 0
P.H. - 8.4
Calcium - 460
K.H. - 125.3
Phosphates - 0
Salinity - 1.023

The clown is sometimes hanging around the frogspawn now.
Sorry about the coralline algae I need to clean the glass.

Maybe move it to a more protected spot from the clown for a couple days and see if it rebounds...

It might not be dying, but just protecting itself... A pic of a hammer of mine right when I added it to my tank..

Here is a better picture of the Hammer coral.

Eek... Looks like it's been torn apart 8-(

Again, try to isolate it the best you can...

Do you think the clown could have done that?

Can't speak from experience, but maybe... My clowns used to suck on the anemone tentacles, maybe it was doing something similar?

Its going to be hard for me to isolate it because its attached to a large rock with aquarium puddy.

Cut the top of a soda bottle up and just create some sort of barrier... Make sure to put holes in it so it can still get flow.
