30g Community Tank - 5 months in

Here is our tank:


It sits in the corner as you can see it is a tall hexagon.

We tried growing a couple different live plants but the only one that has done well is the grass. And that seems to be spreading across the back of the tank pretty well.

We have glow light danios, striped danios, two angel fish, rainbow shark, kuhli loach, ornate tetras (Candy Cane tetra), Colombian tetras, neons, and my prize fish is a gold nugget pleco. The colors on him are amazing!

Some say that maybe over stocked but the water is great, we do a 25% chance every week. Always tests at zero for ammonia and nitrites.

None of the fish are fighting with each other and everyone seems very healthy.

Man, nice pleco! I was thinking of picking up a gold nugget today, but decided against it lol. How big is he?

He is about 2" so not that big at all. They are about $60 at LFS but the person who wrung it in at the till messed up and we only paid $0.60. Crazy!

.60 cents is a steal! Lucky you, I wish they would make that mistake with the 70$ Goldie pleco my lfs has in stock. He'll be nice and big in no time

Do they grow pretty quickly? I'm not even sure how long it takes. And how big can they get?

Yours can get to roughly 6". There are different varieties of gold nuggets, like there are different royal plecos. Their sizes vary. I had one that died at 3 inches. (Heater malfunction) I would've loved to see him grow. Unfortunately they are slow growers, it'll take a couple years for it to reach full adult size.

ya, we figured it would take a while. I like that it will take a while to grow that big as I don't think we have room for it in the 90gal tank that we have since we have a blue panaque pleco in there which is a bit bigger.

How do plecos get along?

You should check my pleco album, I have a 55 pleco tank haha. They get along fine, what's cool is that they already recognize who to stay away from and who to not worry about by just looking at each others patterning lol
